Bills reportedly add a member of Matt Campbell's Penn State staff (Penn State)

Matt Campbell and Penn State are set to lose a second staffer to the NFL.

According to 247, Nittany Lions assistant quarterbacks coach Trace McSorley is leaving Happy Valley to join Joe Brady's staff with the Buffalo Bills.

McSorley was set to return to his alma mater for a second season on the coaching staff, serving as assistant quarterbacks coach under Matt Campbell. A fan favorite for his time as the Nittany Lions quarterback, Campbell's decision to retain McSorley as part of the new staff was widely applauded by fans.

One of the most well highly regarded quarterbacks in Penn State history, despite lacking many of the measurables valued by NFL scouts, McSorley threw for 9,899 yards and 77 touchdowns leading the Nittany Lions offense from 2015-18.

He finished his career as a three-time All Big Ten selection, setting a number of Big Ten and Penn State records along the way.

After a standout career where he started nearly 50 games for the storied program, McSorley was picked by the Ravens with the 197th overall pick, and he spent three seasons in Baltimore backing up Lamar Jackson. He spent some time with the Cardinals during the 2021 season before being a part of a few practice squads with the Patriots, Bears, Steelers, and Commanders until 2024.

Following his playing career, McSorley got his coaching journey started as a part of James Franklin's staff at Penn State.

He becomes the second coach to leave Campbell's staff for the NFL. Receivers coach Noah Pauley had initially followed Campbell from Iowa State to Penn State, but left the college ranks to become the receivers coach for the Green Bay Packers.

At Buffalo, he joins the staff of Joe Brady - a fellow Penn State alumnus - who was elevated to the head coaching job in January following five seasons on staff working under Sean McDermott.
