Hall of Fame coach Pat Dye has passed away (Pat Dye)

Former Auburn head coach, and College Football Hall of Fame head coach Pat Dye has sadly passed. He was 80 years old.

Dye served as the head coach and athletic director at Auburn from 1981-1992, going 99-39-4 over that period with four conference titles with a total of seven seasons where he won 9 games or more.

Prior to his time on The Plains, Dye served as the head coach at East Carolina (1974-79) and spent a season at Wyoming as well (1980).

As a head coach at those three stops, after getting his start in the profession coaching the linebackers at Alabama under Bear Bryant, Dye went 153-62-5 as a college head coach and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2005.

He will forever be a Auburn, and college football, icon for his leadership with the Tigers and beyond.

Earlier this year, Auburn announced plans to erect a statue honoring coach Dye, and the playing surface has beared his name - "Pat Dye Field" - since 2005.

Back in May, coach Dye was hospitalized with kidney related issues, and he had also tested positively for COVID-19 recently, according to multiple outlets.

Please join us in keeping his family in your prayers, and see comments from people nationally on the passing of the icon.
