FootballScoop, partnering with Athlon Sports, is proud to present the Group of 5 Coaches Poll.
Each week, every head coach in the American, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West and Sun Belt has the opportunity to vote his belief on the best teams among the Group of 5.
This past weekend we saw Memphis beat Florida State in Tallahassee, UNLV go to Kansas City and beat Kansas, Toledo trek into the SEC and dominate Mississippi State, and many other great games by teams in these conferences.
UNLV's nationally televised win at Kansas Friday night was enough for voters to move them ahead of both Boise State and Northern Illinois, who both were off this past weekend.
“The strength of the Group of 5 was on full display in Week 3," Athlon Sports senior college football analyst Dan Lyons said. "Memphis, UNLV and Toledo all won on the road against Power 4 opponents, while Tulane continues to prove that it can go toe-to-toe with some of the top programs in the country. There are multiple College Football Playoff-caliber programs coming from these conferences.”
FootballScoop President Scott Roussel noted, "In this week AP Top 25, voters only ranked one team from the Group of 5 conferences in the Top 25 (Northern Illinois at No. 23). G5 coaches believe the results on the field speak for themselves as we saw this weekend and are glad to be voicing their opinions through this poll to showcase the depth of success by teams in these conferences."
During the season, coaches voting will remain anonymous.
