The flight from Dublin, Ireland to Atlanta, Ga., is eight hours and 45 minutes, but it was a breeziest 8:45 possible for Georgia Tech after the Yellow Jackets punked No. 10 Florida State, 24-21, on Saturday.
Needless to say, it was a successful trip for the Yellow Jackets, who were the toast of college football's Week 0. So successful was the trip that on Monday the team named Josh Thompson its Player of the Week.
Thompson won't be found on an official roster, because Thompson is Georgia Tech's director of football operations.
"Nothing in Ireland wouldโve been possible without Joshโs tireless behind-the-scenes work over the past 18 months!," the program said in its announcement.

Saturday began Thompson's second season handling Georgia Tech's operations. He came to Atlanta after four seasons as the DFO at Louisville, and spent the 11 seasons prior to that in a variety of roles at App State, his alma mater. Thompson has been in operations at the college level since taking a GA job at Troy in 2005.
This was his first Player of the Week award.
He beat out the Yellow Jackets' offensive line, who paved the way for GT to run the ball 36 times for 190 yards and three touchdowns. Georgia Tech's 12-play, 49-yard drive iced the final 6:33 of the game, setting up Aidan Birr's game-winning 44-yard field goal.
