Division III job opens following departure of longtime Castleton head coach (Castleton)

The first full week of May has seen two head coaching changes from the Division III level.

Earlier this week it was at The College of New Jersey with Casey Goff leaving for a high school job in West Virginia, and now another east coast program is undergoing a change of guard.

After a decade leading the program, Castleton (D-III - VT) head coach Tony Volpone has decided to turn the page to take on a new challenge and will leave his post at the conclusion of the academic year.

In the school's release, Volpone shared the following:

"For nearly 25 years I have made the development of other young men my priority; at this time, I need to focus on the development of myself and the young men in my family."

"I want to thank my wife Aida who made my time here at Castleton possible. I also want to thank the members of the Castleton community, the administration, past and present coaches and players, and the countless Castleton family members we have worked with."

The program finished 2-7 last fall and they put together a 5-5 season in 2022.

Earlier in his tenure with the Spartans, Volpone put together a few 7-3 and 6-4 seasons, and he leaves the school as their all-time winningest coach.

He won 41 games over the past nine seasons and was 30-25 in conference play.

Defensive coordinator Tyler Higley has been named the program's interim head coach. Higley has spent the past five seasons on staff and previously coached the defensive backs and served as special teams coordinator at Western New England University.

The release did not specify if a national search will take place, or if Higley will lead the team through the fall season.

The team played in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference from 2009 through this past fall and will officially play in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference starting this fall.
