Deion Sanders has key message before kickoff: We look too good to stink it up (ESPN)

Deion Sanders is patrolling the field, right hand to his right ear.

His Colorado Buffaloes kick off their second season under him in less than 50 minutes, and Sanders is … conducting a live interview with ESPN.

“I love building this thing. I love building this thing with guys who make your scheme work,” Sanders tells the ESPN crew. “Not a scheme that make guys work. Guys that make your scheme work, so we went out and got those type of guys.”

The Buffaloes, after a 3-1 start to the 2023 season sees them enter 2024 with just one win since last October, are again an almost brand-new team.

Shedeur Sanders is back at quarterback. Travis Hunter is back at … everything he can play. But there’s 43 newcomers from the Transfer Portal and recruiting hauls.

“We got a tremendous recruiting department, knowing what we need, what we deserve,” Sanders said. “… They answered the call, and I’m proud of them.”

Plus, Coach Prime is a believer in his patented “Look good, feel good, play good” mantra.

“They got their sauce,” Sanders tells ESPN. “You see them tonight? They so clean they’re dirty. I just told them, we clean up too good to play bad. Baby, we look way too good to come out here and stink it up.

“We look good tonight.”

As for Colorado’s coach and his identity?

“I don’t think we have time to explain that,” Coach Prime says. “Very complex, but I have a commitment to excellence. I don’t take shortcuts. I never have in life.

“Eventually, we’re going to win. We just want that to be right now.”

The Buffaloes host the FCS powerhouse Bison of North Dakota State and then travel next week to former conference foe and border-rival Nebraska, also entering its second year under coach Matt Rhule.
