Deion Sanders calls for an end to death threats (Henry Blackburn)

The hit has been played and replayed on an almost-endless loop since it happened Saturday night.

Two-way Colorado Buffaloes superstar Travis Hunter, streaking down the left sideline, goes airborne for a pass only to be gob-smacked after the whistle by Colorado State safety Henry Blackburn, a Rams captain.

While Hunter managed to finish out the first half in limited duty, he was taken to a Boulder, Colorado, hospital for further examination, and now has been declared out of the Buffaloes' lineup for multiple weeks.

By Monday, word trickled out of Colorado that Blackburn had received death threats due to the hit on Hunter.

Tuesday, Colorado coach Deion Sanders called for an end to such behavior and praised Blackburn in the process.

"Henry Blackburn, and I want you guys to record this and run with this," Coach Prime said in his news conference. "Henry Blackburn is a good player who played a phenomenal game.

"He made a tremendous hit on Travis on the sideline; you could call it dirty, you could call it he was just playing the game of football. But whatever it was, it does not constitute that he should be receiving death threats."

Various reports Monday said that not only had Blackburn received threats of violence against him but that the Colorado State safety's phone number, address and his family's personal details also had been exposed online.

"This is a young man that's trying to make it in life," Deion Sanders said. "Live his dream and hopefully graduate with honors, with a degree, committed to excellence and go to the NFL.

"He does not deserve a death threat over a game. At the end of the day, someone most win and someone must lose. Everybody continues their life the next day.

"It's very unfortunate. I'm saddened if there's any of our fans on the other side of those threats. I would hope and pray not, but that kid was just playing to the best of his ability and he made a mistake."

Sanders emphasized that his program has wiped the slate clean with Blackburn.

"I forgive him, our team forgives him," Coach Prime said, "And Travis, he's forgiven him.

"Let's move on, because that kid does not deserve that."

Colorado escaped with a two-overtime win in the "Rocky Mountain Showdown," 43-35, that Deion Sanders had dubbed the 'Battle of Colorado.'

The 19th-ranked Buffaloes travel to No. 10 Oregon Saturday.
