With Arkansas set to conclude its spring practice Saturday with the football program's annual Red-White Game, part of the university's branded 'Woo Pig Weekend,' Sam Pittman is making a move to beef up the program's support staff.
Dan Sabock, with experience on staff at Big Ten resident Rutgers, as well as most recently as the assistant special teams coordinator for American Athletic Conference program Temple, is joining the Razorbacks' staff in a senior quality-control type of role.
Sabock will again continue his work with special teams, assisting an Arkansas unit that helped the Hogs win seven games in 2022 -- including an late-season upset of nationally-ranked Ole Miss as well as a bowl win against Kansas.
In addition to those notable stops, Sabock has coached at Northern Illinois, Florida Tech and Elmhurst College.
Sam Pittman has navigated the Razorbacks to back-to-back postseason wins to cap the 2021-22 seasons, a top-20 end-of-season national ranking during that time and a total of 16 wins in his two full, non-COVID seasons at Arkansas.
After retooling much of his staff after 2022, seeing his former defensive and offensive coordinators hired away to more lucrative posts, Pittman is trying to sustain the Arkansas momentum in 2023.
Once they conclude spring camp this weekend, the Hogs will turn their attention to their 2024 recruiting class, potential needs in the NCAA Transfer Portal and the 2023 season -- which opens with a trio of non-conference home games against Western Carolina, Kent State and BYU before a daunting open to Southeastern Conference play with back-to-back early-season tilts against defending SEC Western Division champion LSU and longtime rival Texas A&M.
