Jim Harbaugh's four game suspension from the NCAA still needed to go to the Committee on Infractions to be finalized, but that had widely been believed to be a formality.
Well there has been breaking news on that front today from Dan Wetzel, who shares that the agreement that had been in place between the NCAA and Harbaugh has broken down.
Pete Thamel adds that the negotiated resolution was not approved by the Committee on Infractions, and that next steps are uncertain, including Harbaugh's availability to start the 2023 season.
The two parties had come to the four game suspension resolution following an investigation into Level II recruiting violations by Harbaugh and his staff.
The NCAA alleges that during the course of the investigation, Harbaugh was not completely truthful and transparent.
However, it now seems that Harbaugh will coach all of the Wolverines games in 2023.
Wetzel adds that the case will move "further through the NCAA disciplinary system" and it will most likely be 2024 before a new resolution is reached.
The past two off seasons Harbaugh has flirted with NFL opportunities before ultimately returning to Ann Arbor, and this situation dragging into 2024 will only add fuel to the fire of rumors this off season if Michigan has the season many expect them to, returning so many key pieces from a team coming of back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances.
