Following their shootout loss to Washington last night, USC has dismissed defensive coordinator Alex Grinch.
The school has announced the move, one that many anticipated after giving up 52 points their loss to the Huskies last night.
Through ten games, USC was giving up nearly 35 points per game, which ranked 124th nationally and is on pace to be a new school record.
The last six games were especially troublesome, as the Trojans defense had given up at least 34 points in each game against Pac-12 opponents, and Notre Dame.
Last night's struggles seemed to be the final straw in a relationship that saw Lincoln Riley defend his defensive play caller at every available opportunity the last several years.
Defensive line coach Shaun Nua and inside linebackers coach / associate head coach for defense Brian Odom will serve as interim co-defensive coordinators for the remainder of the season.
The school has announced that defensive analyst, and former USC standout defensive back Taylor Mays has been elevated to an on-field assistant and will work with the safeties.
Grinch followed Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma to USC, and was the top target of fan frustration both spots, as Lincoln Riley's defensive units continued to struggle with a generational talent manning the quarterback spot the past three seasons in particular.
