After helping lead Montana State to an appearance in the national title game, the Bobcats are reportedly set to lose a coordinator to an FBS opportunity.
ESPN shares today that Bobcats defensive coordinator Bobby Daly is expected to leave for the same post at UTEP.
Daly has been at Montana State since 2019 in a number of roles, and is a former All-American linebacker at rival Montana State.
This past season, his defenses were one of the strongest in the entire FCS, finishing in the top 15 in both total defense and scoring while finishing 15-1, with one of those wins coming against FBS foe New Mexico in the season opener.
Their playoff run included wins over UT Martin, a red-hot Idaho squad, and South Dakota where they didn't give up more than 19 points in any of those contests before losing to NDSU 35-32 for the FCS title.
Before joining the Montana State staff, Daly gained experience at Idaho, where he worked as a graduate assistant and in football operations before moving to an on-field role working with the linebackers.
At UTEP, he steps in to be the Miners defensive coordinator under Scotty Walden following the departure of JJ Clark, who left to join the Dallas Cowboys staff.
