Word out of Fort Worth following longtime defensive coordinator Dick Bumpas' retirement indicated TCU would promote find its new defensive play-caller from within the existing staff. And now it appears Gary Pattersonhas done just that.
FootballScoop learned Wednesday night that TCU will promote safeties coach Chad Glasgowand linebackers coach DeMontie Crossto co-defensive coordinator positions.
Glasgow is the most senior member remaining on TCU's defensive staff with 13 seasons spent working under Patterson. Following a three-season stint at Texas State (then Southwest Texas State), Glasgow became an original member on Patterson's staff in 2001. He stayed through 2010 before leaving for the defensive coordinator job under Tommy Tuberville but the sides parted ways a year later. Glasgow has again coached the Frogs' safeties ever since.
TCU ranked second nationally in opponent completion percentage and ninth in pass efficiency defense en route to a 12-1 season capped by a co-Big 12 championship and a Peach Bowl victory.
Cross recently finished his second season on staff after coaching linebackers at Kansas in 2012. He helped Paul Dawsonwin Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors.
To fill in the void left by Bumpas and former cornerbacks coach Kenny Perry(who accepted the same job at Kansas), FootballScoop learned that graduate assistant Paul Gonzaleswill be promoted to cornerbacks coach and that the Frogs will hire former Washington State special teams coordinator Eric Russellwill join the staff in an unspecified role. TCU does not list a full-time special teams coordinator.
