Sources: Trent Dilfer and UAB are making significant changes on both sides of the ball (UAB)

Last night, we shared that Trent Dilfer and the Blazers were parting ways with defensive coordinator Sione Ta'ufo'ou.

We have since heard that signifiant additional changes are in the works.

Three additional assistants also are not expected to return.

Receivers coach Austin Appleby, defensive line coach Miguel Patrick, and linebackers coach Kenwick Thompson are set to be released as well.

Appleby, the former Purdue quarterback, was in his second season on staff working with the receivers. He previously spent three seasons at Missouri State (FCS) and also was on a national championship staff at Mount Union as their quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator in 2018.

Patrick was added to the UAB staff after a season at Ohio State in a defensive quality control role. Prior to that he led Cedar Grove to a Georgia state championship in his first season as one of the state's widely regarded high school coaches, compiling a 17-7 record in two seasons.

Thompson was a recent addition to the staff, joining the Blazers in July of 2023. He joined the staff after three seasons at UNLV as associate head coach and linebackers coach and two seasons at Fresno State working under Jeff Tedford.

Dilfer and UAB are hitting the reset button as he looks to improve on his 7-17 record heading into year three, so stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
