Perry Parks resigned yesterday as head coach at Ridge View High School (Columbia, S.C.).
Parks' next move is set to quickly unfold.
That's because Parks, a popular prep coach who's routinely led the Blazers into the postseason of the South Carolina High School League, is expected to join the staff of Charlotte head coach Will Healy.
Multiple sources on Saturday told FootballScoop that Parks, a former Coastal Carolina wide receiver who's coached in the high school ranks in Georgia and South Carolina, was on the verge of joining Healy's 49ers staff in an offensive role.
Said a source who in the past has worked with Parks, “He's just a super-personable guy, came up through the ranks in Atlanta, kids really like him, a players'-coach type of guy. He has a great network, knows a lot of people and is really close with Joe Cox.”
A former Georgia quarterback who's from Charlotte, N.C., Cox also is expected to be formally added to Healy's 49ers staff in the coming days.
Parks on Friday posted a poignant message to his Twitter page that announced his departure from the Ridge View program; he thanked the school system for taking a chance “on a coach from a small Lakewood program” and thanked players, coaches, administrators and more for their help in what Parks termed was their ability to have “changed the game in high school football in South Carolina.”
Parks' ascendancy in the coaching world somewhat parallels that of Healy, who has gone from assistant coach at Chattanooga to head coach at Austin Peay to leader of a Charlotte program that earned a bowl bid in 2019, Healy's first season at the helm.
