A major move has gone down at the junior college level, as sources tell FootballScoop that Iowa Western offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Tony Koehling has taken the same position at Hutchinson (Kan.).
Iowa Western defeated Hutchinson, 31-0, for the National Junior College Athletic Association championship last December. In that game, IWCC ran for 288 yards on 5.6 yards per carry; the Reivers threw just 10 passes (completing four) but gained 116 yards on those attempts. Koehling's offense put the game out of reach early by compiling 17 points on their first three possessions.
Koehling's bio has already been removed from Iowa Western's staff page, and Tristan Speer is listed as the team's offensive coordinator. Iowa Western went 27-4 in three seaosns with Koehling on staff. The Reivers played for the national title in 2021 before winning the crown in '22.
Koehling replaces Phil Serchia, who also coached Hutch's O-line in addition to coordinating the offense. Serchia left to take an offensive assistant position with the Los Angeles Chargers.
The move takes Koehling back to Kansas, where he spent a handful of seasons coaching the offensive line at nearby Emporia State (D-II).
Prior to Emporia State, Koehling spent three seasons as a graduate assistant at Ohio.
