Sources confirm Kansas, Lance Leipold making massive hire of former star rival player (Kansas State)

A remarkable breakthrough 2022 season for Lance Leipold atop the Kansas Jayhawks' football program is carrying that same energy into 2023.

In fact, it might even been at an elevated state.

Sources confirm to FootballScoop that the Jayhawks are hiring Sean Snyder away from Illinois to serve as special assistant to the head coach, Leipold. CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd first reported the hire.

It's a massive move for Kansas and Leipold, who raced out of the gates of the 2022 college football season to much national acclaim and earned the program's first bowl berth in nearly 15 years.

Not only is Snyder a former Kansas State All-American player, he's the son of fabled former K-State coach Bill Snyder.

Moreover, Sean Snyder had just spent the past season on Bret Bielema's Illinois staff after a pair of years coordinating special teams at the University of Southern California.

Leipold guided the Jayhawks to a 5-0 start last fall, saw the team crack the top-20 of the national rankings and close with a berth in the Liberty Bowl.

Pairing the proven program builder and rebuilder Leipold with a state institution in Kansas such as Snyder is a massive move for the Jayhawks.
