Dalton Williams, who has past offensive coordinator experience and spent the past two seasons as an offensive analyst for Steve Sarkisian's SEC runner-up Texas LongHorns, is set to join Charles Huff's Southern Miss staff, FootballScoop has learned.
Williams is poised to join Huff's inaugural staff in Hattiesburg as the Golden Eagles's tight ends coach and passing game coordinator.
It's another strong hire for Huff, who earlier Thursday as FootballScoop first reported nabbed a top young special teams coordinator.
At Texas, Williams helped a Longhorns offense that fueled Texas's second-straight run to the College Football Playoff Semifinals. Texas fell last week to Ohio State, which faces Notre Dame Monday night in Atlanta for the CFP Championship.
In addition to his most recent work on the Texas staff, Williams previously served as offensive coordinator at Dean College and was on Dana Holgorsen's staff at West Virginia, serving as a grad assistant for offensive line coach Joe Wickline.
A former standout-quarterback in college at both Stephen F. Austin and Akron, Williams had a brief professional career in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys before he transitioned into coaching.
