Sources: Bronco Mendenhall, New Mexico adding defensive assistant (Charles Mack)

Bronco Mendenhall is continuing to fill out his New Mexico coaching staff, as the veteran college coach makes his return to the sport following two seasons away from the game.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Mendenhall is adding Charles Mack to the New Mexico staff to help coach the Lobos secondary.

Coming from FCS program VMI, where he served as both the Keydets' director of player personnel and safeties coach, Mack reunites with Mendenhall after the two were colleagues at the University of Virginia.

Mack worked on both on- and off-the-field roles at Virginia under Mendenhall, the veteran coach with 135 career wins and 14 bowl appearances. Mack initially was a scout at Virginia and then transitioned into a graduate assistant coaching role.

New Mexico fired Danny Gonzales after four seasons and hired Mendenhall last week.

Turning to Mendenhall, the Lobos are seeking their first winning season since 2016 -- when former Notre Dame head coach Bob Davie led them to an nine-win campaign.
