San Jose State's Brent Brennan reportedly top target for Arizona (Updated) (San Jose State)

Brent Brennan has spent the past seven seasons building the San Jose State program after over two decades as a college assistant.

Now he's poised for an opportunity to take over a Power Five program.

Multiple outlets shared late last night that Brennan has emerged as the top target for the opening at Arizona. The Wildcats job became available when Jedd Fisch left for Washington job. Jason Scheer, who covers the program, added that Brennan has been offered the job.

Brennan was a finalist for the Wildcats opening the last time it was available when it went to Fisch.

In seven seasons at San Jose State, Brennan has put together a 34-48 record.

His tenure started off less than ideally, going 2-11 and then 1-11 in his first two seasons before marked improvement to 5-7 in year three.

During the COVID impacted 2020 season, Brennan and the Spartans enjoyed breakout success with a 7-1 campaign and Mountain West title that led to a contract extension.

He has led the program to back-to-back bowl games and seven-win seasons the past two years.

Before taking over the Spartans program in 2017, Brennan spent time as an assistant in the region at Cal Poly, San Jose State and Oregon State and served as a coordinator for a season previously at San Jose State in 2009.

Early on in his coaching tenure he spent a season in 2000 as a graduate assistant at Arizona, so this marks a return for the veteran coach.

The opening he leaves at San Jose State marks the 25th FBS head coaching change of the off season.

Stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.

Update: Brennan has agreed to a 5-year contract to become Arizona's head coach, per multiple reports.
