Nick Saban making a staff change (Featured)

[updated Weds morning following confirmation from Alabama]

With his spring practices already underway, Nick Saban is going to be tasked with filling an important role on his staff, the program has now confirmed.

Aaron Suttles tweeted last night that Tide tight ends / special teams coach Jay Graham is "expected to no longer be with the program by the end of the week."

No additional details were provided about the reason for the parting of ways. Graham has been a part of Nick Saban's staff for about two months.

Graham was hired after coaching the 2020 season at Tennessee to fill the role of Jeff Banks, who left to join Steve Sarkisian at Texas where he became college football's first $1 million special teams coordinator.

Tennessee let go of Jeremy Pruitt back in mid-January after an investigation eventually concluded the conduct of at least two assistant coaches and several recruiting staff members were likely to lead to an NCAA finding of Level I and/or Level II violations.

At this point, it is unclear if Graham's departure at Alabama has anything to do with the investigation's findings at Tennessee.

Graham is a former Tennessee running back who spent last season with the Vols program coaching the running backs after previous stops at Texas A&M, Florida State, and South Carolina where he worked with running backs, tight ends, and special teams.

While it's unclear at this point where Saban will turn to fill the opening on staff, he has built a stellar reputation of building up his staff of analysts with some quality former college football assistant coaches, and this year has been no different. His stable of new analysts this year includes; former Texans tight ends coach Will Lawing, veteran defensive coordinator Dave Huxtable, former Louisville and Eastern Michigan head coach Ron Cooper, and former Utah State defensive backs coach Mark Orphey.
