The NFL is in the process of changing the Catch Rule during its offseason legislative process, and with good reason. #DezCaughtIt. But that isn't the only common sense change that could be on the way this spring.
Presently, the NFL bars teams from officially hiring coaches until their current team's season is complete. This leads to awkward scenarios where everyone in the world can acknowledge that, for instance, Matt Patricia will be the head coach of the Detroit Lions except for Patricia and the Lions.
That weeks-long process also allowed Josh McDaniels to take the Indianapolis Colts job and then back out later on, leaving the Colts with no head coach after the calendar flipped to February.
On Tuesday, NFL Network's Judy Battista tweeted the McDaniels situation could lead to the abolition of the rule.
It would be interesting to see if the language allows teams to only announce head coaches or if they can announce assistants as well.
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
