You'd be hard pressed to find a coach whose stock has risen as rapidly as Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley.
According to a report tonight, Staley will become the new head coach of the LA Chargers.
Just a few years ago, we named Staley as the D-III Coordinator of the Year for his work at John Carroll (D-III - OH) in 2016. From there he coached the outside linebackers for the Bears for two season, then to the Broncos in the same role for a season before being named defensive coordinator for the Rams heading into this year.
The job with the Bears in 2017 was Staley's first job in the NFL. He spent time at the FBS, junior college, and FCS level during a coaching career that started in 2006. His coaching journey took him from Northern Illinois to St. Thomas (D-III - MN), Hutchinson CC (JC - KS), Tennessee, John Carroll, and James Madison (FCS - VA). He held the coordinator roles at Hutchinson CC, John Carroll (twice - in 2013 and then again from 2015-16), and James Madison.
Now, just five years removed from coaching Division III football, it appears Staley will be an NFL head coach and won't even have to leave LA to do it.
