Mike Neu will not return at Ball State (Mike Neu)

Ball State has decided to make a head coaching change.

Mike Neu, who was in his ninth season leading the program, will not return after a 3-7 start.

The decision comes after Ball State allowed a 14-point fourth quarter lead to evaporate against Buffalo on Tuesday night in a game that they would eventually go on to lose in overtime.

An alumnus of the school, Neu went 40-63.

His best season came in 2020, where he led the program to a MAC title during the COVID-shortened season. It turned out to be his only winning season there.

The Cardinals have two games remaining. A home tilt against Bowling Green next Saturday and then a trip to Ohio to wrap up the season.

Offensive line coach Colin Johnson will step in as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
