Following Texas State's impressive 45-21 victory over Rice last night, the Bobcats will reportedly lose a coordinator to a reunion with Manny Diaz at Duke.
Pete Thamel shared late last night that Texas State defensive coordinator Jonathan Patke will reunite with Diaz as the Blue Devils new defensive coordinator after helping lead the program to their best season in school history with a record 8-wins.
Diaz previously had Patke on his staff at Miami, where Patke worked with the team's Strikers and then inside linebackers in addition to coordinating the Hurricanes special teams. He started off as a quality control coach before being elevated to an on-field coaching role in Coral Gables.
He also worked with Diaz in various capacities at both Mississippi State and Louisiana Tech when Diaz was a coordinator.
Last night against Rice, while operating without headsets due to technical difficulties, Patke's defense forced five turnovers (two defensive touchdowns by one player) and allowed no second half points to the Owls.
Texas State entered the program's first ever bowl game operating as one of the most aggressive defenses in the country, leading college football in tackles for loss with nearly 9 per game.
Interestingly enough, the program that finished second in TFLs was Manny Diaz's defense at Penn State last season.
