Lance Guidry will be the next head coach at McNeese State, sources confirmed to FootballScoop Tuesday. Guidry takes over for Matt Viator, who accepted the head job at Louisiana-Monroe on Monday.
Guidry served as the Cowboys' defensive coordinator for the past three seasons. He will be introduced at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
In 2015, Guidry helped McNeese State post a perfect regular season while claiming the school's 14th Southland Conference championship. His defense ranked 12th nationally in total defense (allowing a tick over 300 yards per game) while placing fourth in rushing defense and third in both scoring defense and red zone defense.
McNeese State represents Guidry's first full-time head coaching job, but he did serve as interim head coach at Miami (Ohio) in 2010 and Western Kentucky in 2012. A McNeese State graduate, Guidry launched his coaching career as a Cowboys GA in 1994, then returned as defensive coordinator from 2000-04 and returned again in 2013.
