We can definitely say Kliff Kingsbury has a type.
Since his 2018 firing at Texas Tech, Kingsbury has gone from Los Angeles to Phoenix to Los Angeles, and now to Las Vegas. The man likes coaching ball and living in cosmopolitan Southwestern cities.
Basically, this is the vibe at all times, if not literally, then spiritually.
Kingsbury spent 2023 as a senior offensive analyst, after his rumored trip to Thailand.
Kingsbury beat out Chip Kelly for the job in Las Vegas, and gives the Raiders a rare combination of former players at head coach and offensive coordinator.
Antonio Pierce and Kingsbury will work alongside Marvin Lewis, who also joined the staff Thursday as assistant head coach. Longtime NFL assistant and former Raiders and Browns head coach Hue Jackson has also reportedly interviewed for a job on the offensive staff, so Pierce is definitely trying to bolster he and Kliff's youthful energy with experience.
The Raiders went 8-9 in 2023, and 5-4 under Pierce. After moving on from Derek Carr, rookie Aidan O'Connell played the majority of snaps at quarterback. The fourth round pick threw for 2,218 yards on 6.5 per attempt with 12 touchdowns against seven interceptions in 11 games.
Either the Raiders will try to upgrade at quarterback, or O'Connell is about to play the best football of his life.
If I'm O'Connell, I'm hoping to stay, and I'm hoping we can do offseason film study at Kliff's place.
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
