Tom Allen and the Indiana program announced this afternoon that they're making a change at offensive coordinator.
Walt Bell has been relieved of his duties. The decision comes after the Hoosiers lost 44-17 loss to Maryland on Saturday.
Prior to joining Tom Allen's staff heading into the 2022 season, the Indiana alumnus was the head coach at UMass for three seasons, where he compiled a 2-23 overall record.
Former Temple and Northern Illinois head coach Rod Carey has been tabbed as the team's interim offensive coordinator. He was serving in a defensive quality control role on staff.
Through their first five games of the season, Indiana was averaging just under 21 points per game, which ranked 113th out of 133 FBS teams.
The Hoosiers are 2-3 overall, and have started 0-2 in Big Ten play with losses to Ohio State (23-3) and Maryland.
Their two wins are against FCS Indiana State and a two-point, overtime win over Akron.
Carey will bring valuable experience to his new role, as we he went 52-30 as the head coach at Northern Illinois from 2012-18 before he left for Temple, where he went 12-20. He served a successful stint as the offensive coordinator at Northern Illinois before taking the reigns of the program.
