Close to 700,000 fans poured into the streets of Philadelphia yesterday to celebrate the Eagles first Super Bowl title parade.
Those fans also got to bear witness to one of the most epic sports speeches in recent memory.
When center Jason Kelce took the podium in his wacky get-up he started off by giving credit to Eagles executive VP of football operations Howie Roseman for the team's recent transformation, and then quickly got fired up about head coach Doug Pederson and what various analysts and NFL insiders had to say about him. That then led into Kelce talking about a number of his teammates that were discarded and critiqued for a number of reasons.
In my opinion, his best quote in the whole speech comes just after he names those teammates:
"We were a bunch of underdogs. And you know what underdogs is? It's a hungry dog. And Jeff Stoutland has had this in the building for five years. It's a quote in the O-line room that has stayed on the wall for the last five years. 'Hungry dogs run faster.' THAT'S THIS TEAM!"
Towards the end of his talk, Kelce is so fired up he drops the f-bomb a few times, but what he lays out over the course of about five minutes is truly epic material and something so purely Philadelphia that we can all appreciate the message.
