Back a few years ago, Forbes did an analysis of head coaching salaries in the NFL that found the average salary for an NFL head coach is just over $6 million annually.
With that in mind, as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 2016-18 and one season leading the Raiders (2011), Hue Jackson was paid handsomely for his time in Cleveland after going 3-36-1 including an 0-20 mark during road games and some unforgettable moments on HBO's Hard Knocks.
After his dismissal in Cleveland, Jackson briefly joined the staff of Marvin Lewis at Cincinnati in 2018 as a special assistant to the head coach, but had been away from the sidelines until Eddie George was tabbed the new head coach at Tennessee State (FCS).
No one expected Hue to be making NFL, or even FBS-type coordinator, money at his new FCS stop, as Hue surely got some significant buyout money from his time in Cleveland and Oakland.
Thanks to The Tennesseean, we've now got a clear picture on just how much Jackson is set to make on George's staff.
The report shares that Hue will make a salary of $150,000, and adds that the contract is a one-year deal that runs from April 21, 2021 through April 20, 2022.
The NFL coaching veteran is highly regarded in the profession for his offensive acumen and has tutored some big NFL names like Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmandzadeh and was vital in the development of Joe Flacco early in the young quarterback's career.
The one year deal may be a sign that he's hoping for another opportunity in the NFL as a coordinator or assistant coach, as his name has been mentioned for a few opportunities the past few seasons, but regardless of his future plans, landing the veteran at a program like Tennessee State was a huge score for first-year coach Eddie George.
