Dino Babers will not return to lead Syracuse next season.
The news was first reported this morning by Pete Thamel and sources confirm to FootballScoop. Babers has been informed sources tell FootballScoop.
Babers has spent the past eight seasons leading the program.
The Orange are 5-6 this season, and Babers is 41-55 overall with the program.
His best season came in 2018 when thye went 10-3 and won a bowl game. That year he brought home ACC Coach of the Year honors as well.
That season was followed by drops to 5-7 and 1-10. Administration stood by him while they put together a 5-7 season in 2021 and then a 7-6 season last year.
All told, Babers led the team to just two bowl trips during his tenure and two winning seasons.
Before taking over the ACC program, Babers led Eastern Illinois and Bowling Green for two successful seasons each.
At EIU, Babers went 7-5 before jumping to 12-2, winning the Ohio Valley Conference in each of those seasons. They lost in the first round of the FCS playoffs his first season before bowing out in the quarterfinals in year two.
At Bowling Green, Babers went 8-6 and then 10-3 in 2014 and 2015, winning the MAC East Division in each of those seasons.
Thamel adds that tight ends coach Nunzio Campanile is expected to serve as interim head coach. Campanile previously served as the interim head coach at Rutgers for eight games following the dismissal of Chris Ash in 2019.
