Former Notre Dame coordinator among new hires to Louisville support staff (Louisville Football Coaching Staff)

It's Support Staff SZN in college football, and Louisville has landed itself a big one -- with ties to the program.

Former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Chip Long has joined the staff in an off-field capacity, Cardinal Authority reported Tuesday. Long was expected to be on the field for the first practice of the Jeff Brohm era.

Long, 39, played at North Alabama, then began his career in coaching at Louisville in 2006 as a graduate assistant, where he worked under quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Jeff Brohm. Long then GA'd under Bobby Petrino at Arkansas and took tight ends roles at Illinois and Arizona State before becoming the offensive coordinator at Memphis in 2016.

Long then spent 2017-19 as the offensive coordinator at Notre Dame. Those seasons saw the Irish go 33-6 with three AP Top 12 finishes and a College Football Playoff berth. Notre Dame averaged 34.2, 31.4, and 36.8 points in Long's seasons overseeing the offense.

Long spent 2020 as an offensive analyst at Tennessee, 2021 as the offensive coordinator at Tulane, and 2022 as the coordinator at Georgia Tech.

The site also reported five more hires, four with prior ties to Brohm:

-- Brandon Sharp, a Purdue defensive analyst, joined as a defensive quality control. Sharp played at Louisville during Brohm's stint as an assistant.

-- Adam Mueller, who also comes from Purdue, will also be a defensive QC.

-- Dale Williams, the offensive line coach for Brohm's entire run at Purdue, has come along as an offensive quality control.

-- Jontavious Morris will be a recruiting assistant and defensive line quality control. He played for Brohm at Western Kentucky.

-- Former Idaho offensive coordinator Brian Reader will be an offensive QC. He was Northern Colorado's running backs coach last season.
