Central Michigan reportedly losing coach to FCS coordinator job (Central Michigan)

Matt Drinkall drew widespread rave reviews for the initial staff he put together at Central Michigan, from top to bottom from his coordinators to support staff.

After going 7-5 in his debut season as a head coach at the FBS level in the regular season, with a loss 34-7 loss to Big Ten member Northwestern in the GameAbove Sports Bowl to drop them to 7-6, Drinkall was able to keep his coordinators intact heading into this spring, as his army of assistant coaches as they embark on year two of their rebuild in Mount Pleasant.

However, the Chippewas are set to lose a member of their support staff.

Jack McDaniels, who had been with the Chippewas as a senior analyst, is leaving for a coordinator opportunity at the FCS level.

Georgetown, a FCS program in Washington, DC is bringing McDaniels on board as their new offensive coordinator according to multiple reports.

The move makes the 27-year old one of the youngest offensive coordinators in all of Division I football.

A former quarterback at West Alabama, McDaniels was a rare three-time captain before starting his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater in 2021.

He moved on to Georgetown prior to the 2022 season, coaching the tight ends his first season on staff before moving to quarterbacks in 2023, and then was elevated to pass game coordinator / recruiting coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the 2024 campaign.

He would get a taste of the NFL with the Tampa Bay Bucs as a Coaching Fellow during the Summer of 2025 before spending this past season in Mount Pleasant as part of Drinkall's staff.

At Georgetown, he joins the staff of veteran Hoyas head coach Rob Sgarlata, who took over the program in February 2014 when he became just the fourth person in program history to have played and graduated from Georgetown before being named head coach.

Sgarlata and Georgetown are coming off a 6-6 season, and are coming off back-to-back 5-6 season in the two seasons prior to that.

This year's schedule will see the Patriot League program open with back-to-back league games against Lafayette and Lehigh before hitting the road for an intra-league game at Richmond before facing non-conference foes in Columbia and Cornell both at home at Cooper Field.
