Despite a solid 6-5 campaign that saw them take eventual national champion Ferris State to double overtime in the closest game the Bulldogs played all year before losing 51-45, Saginaw Valley State leadership decided to make a change at the end of the year, opting to turn the page on the Ryan Brady era after a successful run atop the program.

Sources tell FootballScoop, SVSU's search has led them to the leader of one of Division II's top scoring offenses.

Michael Engle, the offensive coordinator at the University of Indianapolis (D-II - IN) where he was a finalist for the FootballScoop Division II Coordinator of the Year, is set to become the new head coach of the Cardinals, sources share.

Sources share an official announcement is expected as soon as today.

With Engle on staff, UIndy has won the GLVC title and punched their ticket to the Division II playoffs each of the last four seasons.

He initially joined the staff in 2022 as quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator, earning the promotion to offensive coordinator in 2024 and adding the assistant head coach designation in 2025.

The 11-2 season this past fall marked arguably the best season in school history, and Engle's offense was a huge reason behind why.

Engle orchestrated one of the nation's most prolific offenses, as the Greyhounds ended the year ranked second in all of Division II in both total offense (500.3 ypg) and scoring offense (46.0 ppg).

His unit also ranked in among the top 10 in Division II in passing offense, third-down conversion percentage and red zone offense.

The Greyhounds finished the year ranked 10th in the final AFCA Coaches Poll, following a first-round playoff win over Truman 57-14 before they fell to Minnesota State in a 35-27 shootout in the second round.

Engle tutored the first-ever three-time GLVC player of the year in senior quarterback Gavin Sukup, who led the country in completion percentage and passing efficiency this past fall while ranking among the top five nationally in passing touchdowns and yards. Sukup, the runner-up for the Harlon Hill Trophy given to the top player in Division II, will graduate as the school's career record holder in both touchdowns and yards through the air.

Prior to joining UIndy, Engle worked with the quarterbacks and receivers at his alma mater, DePauw University, where they put together a 12-3 season.

He has previous stops at Bryant (FCS - RI), West Virginia Wesleyan (D-II - WV) and Florida Tech (D-II).

At SVSU, he takes over a program in arguably the toughest Division II league in the country. Ferris State has won four of the last five Division II titles, while Grand Valley State is a perennial top 10 program as well.
