Arkansas parted ways with Sam Pittman just five games into the 2025 season after a 2-3 start that included a close loss to Memphis.
Pittman's best campaign came in year two, when he led the Razorbacks to a 9-4 campaign, but he left Fayetteville 32-34 overall with three bowl trips in five seasons and some change.
After an exciting search, the decision makers at Arkansas ultimately decided they liked what they saw from Ryan Silverfield in the Tigers upset of the Razorbacks earlier in the season and hired Silverfield as the new head Hog.
Silverfield and Memphis entered the season as one of the favorites to be the Group of Five's representative in the College Football Playoff, but after a winning their first six games to open the season, Memphis was shocked by UAB in Birmingham 24-31. Memphis would go on to knock of a top 20 ranked South Florida squad, followed by a win over Rice, but then lose their last three games of the regular season against Tulane, at ECU, and home against Navy to end the season 8-4.
While he does bring some previous NFL experience with him to the new role, the SEC is new territory for the 45-year old coaching veteran, so it will be interesting to see how he assembles his staff.
