Weber State announces head coaching change (Weber State Football)

Mickey Mental will not return as Weber State's head coach, the program announced Monday.

"We want to thank coach Mental for his efforts and the passion he put into our football program," said AD Tim Crompton. "We wish him nothing but the best for him and his family in the future."

Mental was promoted from offensive coordinator in 2022 after Jay Hill took the BYU defensive coordinator job, and remained in that role in his three seasons as head coach. After going 10-3 with an FCS playoffs win in 2022, the Wildcats slipped to 6-5 in 2023, 4-8 last season, and stand at 3-7 today. The move comes two days after a 66-14 loss to No. 3 Montana State. He exits with a 13-20 overall record, including an 8-14 mark in Big Sky play.

Associate head coach/offensive line coach Brent Myers has been appointed interim head coach. He's been with the program since 2014 and won four Big Sky championships along the way.

Weber State has two games remaining in its 2025 campaign, at Idaho State on Saturday and then at home against Northern Arizona on Nov. 22.
