It's the end of October and already this cycle is shaping up to potentially be one of the most active head coaching change cycles we've ever seen.
We've also seen a number of offensive coordinator changes already, a few of them tied to the record amount of in-season head coaching changes.
After parting ways with head coach DeShawn Foster after an 0-3 start to his second season, UCLA decided to also part ways with offensive play caller Tino Sunseri, who had been one of the hottest coordinators in college football after helping Curt Cignetti immediately turn Indiana around in 2024.
LSU also decided to make a change at offensive coordinator following the late-October decision to part ways with Brian Kelly. After returning a Heisman hopeful at quarterback and ranking in the top five in passing yards nationally, the Tigers had struggled offensively in 2025, ranking 6th in the SEC in passing, 12th in scoring, 14th in total offense, and 16th in rushing offense under Sloan. Sloan had previously served as the offensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech from 2019 before joining Kelly's staff in Baton Rouge.
At Wyoming, Jay Johnson was handed a mid-season demotion, as head coach Jay Sawvel elected to elevate wide receivers coach Jovon Bouknight to run the offense the remainder of the season after a 3-4 start. Johnson was in his second season after previously calling offenses at Michigan State, Minnesota, and Louisiana, among others.
At Florida, Billy Napier had handled the offensive play calling duties, but when he was let go and receivers coach Billy Gonzales took over as interim head coach, he appointed quarterbacks coach Ryan O'Hara as the interim play caller while OC / TEs coach Russ Callaway leading the game plan for the passing game and OL coach Rob Sale and RBs coach Jabbar Juluke handling input for the run game.
Those are just the changes through week 9 of the season, stay plugged in to this page for all the offensive coordinator changes across the FBS level over the weeks and months to come.
Looking back at the last several years, the FBS level has seen more change on the offensive side than on defense.
There were 52 offensive coordinator changes in the 2024-25 cycle, 54 in the 2023-24 cycle, and nearly half the FBS offensive coordinator jobs changed hands in 2022-23.
The defensive side of the ball saw 48 changes in 2023-24 and 46 changes in 2022-23.
If the early indications are any measure, we're looking at yet another season where the FBS offensive coordinator changes will once again outpace the changes taking place on the defensive side of the ball.
