For years, college coaches have been exploring ways to curb the fake injuries of defensive players when an offensive is trying to play with tempo.
There's been plenty of suggestions, including one that makes the most sense being making a player who goes down with an injury and forcing the game to stop to sit for the rest of the drive.
While that seems to have a lot of support in the coaching community, especially among offensive coaches, the rules committee has been slow to adopt changes to truly curb the issue.
The NCAA rules committee did pass a change in that this season, if a player on the field presents as injured after the ball is spotted for the next play, that player's team will be charged a timeout. If the team has no timeouts remaining, a 5-yard delay of game penalty is assessed.
Of course, and as expected, smart defensive coaches have found the workaround to this rule by players going down as injured as soon as the down and distance is known, well before the ball is spotted.
Earlier this year, Syracuse was fined $25,000 and publicly reprimanded by the ACC for faking injuries in their matchup with Clemson yet avoided penalties for it during the game itself - showing just how effective the rule committee's change has been as we approach the midpoint of the season.
A high school in California has taken a different, rather controversial approach to addressing the issue.
In a game between Sierra Canyon HS (CA) and Serra (CA) on Friday night, the Sierra Canyon offense had been playing fast which sparked some cramping issues by Serra players. Some accounts of the game state that those cramping issues were happening on every drive of the game when Sierra Canyon was on offense.
In a move that has quickly gone viral and sparked a ton of controversy online, Serra Canyon seems to have orchestrated a play where the nearly the entire offense - with only the center abstaining - collapsed with fake cramps. The move came after Serra players cramped on back-to-back snaps.
Here's a look at a few angles of the play.

The move really bothered Serra coaches on the other sideline, as some of them came out onto the field and made their way to the Sierra Canyon sideline for what seemed to be a rather heated conversation.
While the majority of Serra coaches corralled players from getting involved, it appears the head coach and a few staffers trying to keep the peace did find their way to the Sierra Canyon side to have some words.

Canyon would go on to win the matchup 30-0, but the calculated decision to mock cramping defenders will be the takeaway from this high school game.
