Barring the completely unexpected, the FBS head coaching carousel for the 2013-14 hiring season has taken its final spin.

Numbers were down this season as only 20 schools changed coaches, a sizable drop from 31 in 2012 and 28 in 2011. Only 10 of those schools changed coaches on their own accord, and the other 10 came by way of a reaction from another coaching change, either in the NFL or FBS.

For the first time in the last two seasons we saw a chain reaction that caused coaching changes at four different schools. Lane Kiffin was let go at USC, which led to Steve Sarkisian being hired away from Washington, which led to Chris Petersen being hired away from Boise State, which led to Bryan Harsin being hired away from Arkansas State, which led to Arkansas State hiring North Carolina offensive coordinator Blake Anderson.

Western Kentucky's Jeff Brohm was the only assistant to be promoted from within to a head coaching job, but Bryan Harsin, Bobby Petrino, Steve Sarkisian and Mark Whipple were pulled back to schools with which they had previous experience.

Of the 20 outgoing coaches...

ONE took an NFL head coaching job (Bill O'Brien)

EIGHT took FBS head coaching jobs (Dave Clawson, James Franklin, Bryan Harsin, Jeff Monken Chris Petersen, Bobby Petrino, Steve Sarkisian and Charlie Strong.)

THREE landed FBS coordinator jobs (Dave Christensen, Lane Kiffin, Garrick McGee)

ONE found an NFL position coach job (Paul Pasqualoni), and

SEVEN are out of coaching, either temporarily or permanently (Mack Brown, Rich Ellerson, Ron English, Jim Grobe, Charley Molnar, Carl Pelini and Don Treadwell)

Of the 20 incoming coaches....

THREE were hired away from BCS head coaching jobs (James Franklin, Steve Sarkisian and Charlie Strong)

FIVE were hired away from sub-BCS FBS head coaching positions (Dave Clawson, Bryan Harsin, Jeff Monken, Chris Petersen and Bobby Petrino)

FIVE were plucked from FCS head coaching jobs (Dino Babers, Craig Bohl, Bill Clark, Chris Creighton and Willie Fritz)

FIVE were promoted from FBS coordinator positions (Blake Anderson, Jeff Brohm, Bob Diaco, Chuck Martin and Derek Mason)

ONE was pulled from an FBS position coaching job (Charlie Partridge), and

ONE was did not coach in 2013 (Mark Whipple). Whipple served as the Cleveland Browns' quarterbacks coach in 2011-12.
