Ninety-nine percent of the time, face-to-face contact between college football players and the local police department in the dog days of summer leads to nothing but headaches for the coaching staff. Welcome to the one percent.

Tennessee recently put its players through a day's worth of training with the Knoxville Police Department as a means of team building and exposure to the real world.

The Vols got exposed to the "fun" parts of the police world - if you can count getting chased down by a German shepherd fun - and received a better understanding of what police work entails.

Not a bad way to spend this time of year.
