When most players and coaches speak about overcoming adversity, they're mostly talking about it in a football-only sense. Maybe the team was overlooked in preseason rankings, plus some key injuries and maybe a suspension or two. In the insular world most of us live in, that constitutes adversity.
For Mendota High School players from the admittedly down-trodden Mendota, Calif., adversity means living the type of life where a grueling football practice under the California sun is without a doubt the easiest part of their day.
