UAB: Defensive coordinator Duwan Walker has stepped down to go into private business according to Drew Champlin who covers the Blazers for AL.com. Champlin reports that Bill Clark has promoted defensive line coach David Reeves to defensive coordinator. Walker and Clark had coached together for the past 16 years.
Auburn: Gus Malzahn has signed a one-year contract extension keeping him on the Plains through 2020. Read more here.
North Texas: In a move that will surprise precisely no one, North Texas has named deputy AD Hank Dickenson its acting AD in advance of Rick Villarreal's pending departure. The Mean Green have hired Eastman & Beaudine to assist with the search, and two consultants to evaluate the athletics department.
Appalachian State: Per source, Penn State student assistant Matt Fleischacker has been hired at Appalachian State as a defensive graduate assistant.
Siena Heights (NAIA - MI): Siena Heights is seeking qualified applicants for a graduate assistant opening. The position will work with offensive side of the ball. The graduate assistant will report to the offensive coordinator and head football coach. Duties will include coaching a position, recruiting a specific area, academic monitoring, administrative duties, extensive video breakdown of games and practices, opponent scout as well as some equipment and laundry duties. Additional duties may be assigned by the head coach, defensive coordinator or the director of athletics. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree, a valid driver’s license, and playing experience/coaching experience at the collegiate level with the Offensive Line. Strong communication skills and ability to recruit high academic and quality student-athletes is a must. Experience with Hudl digital editing system is a MUST. Compensation includes a salary of $6,000 and full tuition remission. Housing and Meals not included. Positions are contingent upon admittance into Siena Heights University Graduate School. Navarro (JC - TX): Navarro College has an immediate opening for a defensive intern. The position will consist of coaching a defensive position group as well as having a recruiting area. Weekly duties will consist of duties that deal with hudl, as well as on the field assignments and other duties assigned by the head coach. The intern position pays room and board and no other compensation is given (no medical & no money). This is a great opportunity to be a position coach and be a part of a program that has played in the conference championship game 8 of the last 9 years. Start date is July 11.
