We've seen many instances this fall of the sports and politics pages colliding though, in most cases, it's been the former jumping over to the latter, especially after Colin Kaepernick's National Anthem protest went viral.
The opposite has happened this week, when an unearthed recording of Donald Trump from 2005 was written off as "locker room talk." While many actual athletes have come forward to say that isn't what they talk about in locker rooms, South Garland (Texas) High School's football program has used the national controversy of the week to create something positive for its school.
Head coach Josh Ragsdale took note of the Trump controversy and used it to spark a conversation about domestic violence, with the Colonels signing pledges to do their part in stopping an epidemic that, statistics show, will touch one in three women and one in four men over the course of their lives.
"It was laid on my heart that I'm a football coach, I love to win football games, but I've got a bigger opportunity to groom young men," Ragsdale told WFAA-TV in Dallas.
