Mike Neu has been announced as Ball State's new head coach (Top)

A few days after we reported that Mike Neu would be the new head coach at Ball State. Today, the program formally announced that Neu has been hired to lead the program.

Neu is a 1994 Ball State alum that spent the last two seasons coaching the quarterbacks for the New Orleans Saints.

“We are delighted that Mike has agreed to become our head football coach,” Ball State Director of Athletics Mark Sandy noted. “His football expertise, leadership traits and passion for Ball State are qualities that our student-athletes and fans will embrace.”

Prior to joining the Saints organization, Neu coached the quarterbacks at Tulane for a few seasons. He also has a prior stop with the Saints as a scout, as well as plenty of Arena and Indoor coaching experience with the New Orleans VooDoo as a head coach, and assistant coaching stints with the Carolina Cobras, Augusta Stallions, and Nashville Kats.

As a player, in 1996, Neu was named MAC Player of the Year, and in 2004 he earned the Arena League Coach of the Year during his first season leading the VooDoo.

We're told that Mike and his wife Charmin are looking forward to being back in Muncie for his first college head coaching job. Ball State is a place that Neu is very passionate about.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
