The new Big 12 Championship will have the same home as the old Big 12 Championship.
The conference announced Friday the re-born Big 12 title game will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, from 2017-21. Jerry Jones's Football Taj Mahal hosted the game in 2009 and '10 before it was temporarily killed due to conference realignment.
“There is great anticipation with the return of the Big 12 Football Championship and we look forward to hosting the event in AT&T Stadium for the next five years,” Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said in a statement. “The building is a state of the art facility and offers many amenities that will be enjoyed by our institutions and fans.”
AT&T Stadium was really the only choice that made sense for the conference.
Kansas City, home of five previous Big 12 title games, is now a geographic outlier with Nebraska and Missouri no longer in the conference. And beyond that, the city also hosts the Big 12's basketball tournaments each year. Houston and San Antonio also submitted bids, but the Metroplex offered a better location and a better venue.
FOX will broadcast the game in 2017, '19, '21 and '23, and ESPN will carry it in 2018, '20, '22 and '24.
