"What are you for?" (Virginia Tech)

Back in November, Virginia Tech head men's basketball coach Buzz Williams and South Carolina head men's basketball coach Frank Martin shared the podium and then each shared some great nuggets on coaching and leadership as modern-day coaches.

After sharing some quick thoughts, coach Williams shared that he wished there were more voices about what people are for, instead of what they're against - especially on social media.

From our article back in November of 2017:

"I think that the problem is that we have so many voices on what they’re against, and we have very few voices on what are you for.”

“I think that the best thing for me that I spend time talking to our team about, and I’m, not smart enough to talk about our country, but I wish there was more about what we are for, and standing up about what we are for.”

“This is what we’re for. This is what our actions are for. As opposed to, what are we against? Because children are growing up hearing ‘be against that, and be against that.’ So okay, but what am I for?"

Coach Williams recently followed up on that notion by sharing a number of things via a quick video that he's "for," and it's a list he spent the past two years learning, recognizing, and thinking about.

This is good stuff, and something more coaches should consider reflecting on, and thinking about.

Too often, I think we spend too much time ➕ energy on talking about or tweeting about ‘what we are against’

Over the last 2️⃣ yrs within our program & my family, I've tried to spend that ⏰ on learning/recognizing/thinking 🤓 about ‘’what are you for?’#gBTimeout#getBETTERpic.twitter.com/JeX260Ux0W
