There's no argument that the Browns are one of those few professional organizations that have been mired in their losing ways for decades.
As coaches, many of us have been part of teams in similar situations, where the biggest challenge facing coaches, players, and the adminstration is changing the culture surrounding the program.
Last night the first episode of HBO's Hard Knocks series with the Browns aired. Coming off an 0-16 season (which followed a 1-15 mark in Hue Jackson's first year) the organization has actually put together a really impressive off season by bringing in a number of big name guys they hope can come in and help to change the culture.
First-year Browns receiver Jarvis Landry, who played his college ball at LSU and his first few years in the league as a very reliable target with the Dolphins - where he was a 3x Pro Bowl pick and the leader among all NFL receivers last season, gave us a really good perspective on what that looks like during a wide receivers meeting when he calls out the past culture of the Browns organization, as well as a player or two in particular.
Specifically, Landry calls out guys that choose not practice because they're "hurt," saying that's the type of stuff that has plagued the organization and is why the Browns past is what it is now, adding that the mentality is contagious, and that mentality needs to come to a end immediately.
See Landry go off in what will surely go down as one of the best and most passionate rants in Hard Knocks history in the clip - but fair warning, he does drop a number of f-bombs so keep that in mind depending on where you're listening.
If that first episode is any indication of what is to come, this season of Hard Knocks is going to be as fun to watch as any that came before it.
