Update at Old Dominion (Old Dominion)

Following the resignation of Bobby Wilder just six days ago, Old Dominion has moved fast with some quality candidates to fill their head coaching vacancy.

Sources tell FootballScoop AD Wood Selig did phone interviews with several coaches and then planned to bring a small number of coaches to interview in person.

Sources tell FootballScoop Selig was highly impressed with Ricky Rahne, Travaris Robinson and Marcus Freeman.

Penn State offensive coordinator Ricky Rahne is a guy that has been getting a lot of attention. After being chosen to step in as offensive coordinator following the departure of Joe Moorhead to Mississippi State, Rahne has done a great job finding a way to keep the Penn State offense explosive and productive without talent and leadership like Trace McSorely and Saquon Barkley on the roster. Rahne has worked under James Franklin at Vandy and Penn State dating back to 2011, when he developed the Commodores quarterbacks.

South Carolina defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson is another guy that has been in the conversation. A longtime right hand of Will Muschamp's dating back to 2011 when both were at Florida, Robinson followed Muschamp to Auburn when Will served as the defensive coordinator for a season before landing the Gamecocks head coaching job. Robinson was then one of Will's first, and most important hires as defensive coordinator.

Cincinnati defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman is also under consideration. Freeman previously spent four seasons coaching the linebackers and serving as co-defensive coordinator at Purdue before joining Luke Fickell's staff as defensive coordinator in 2017 as defensive coordinator. The success that the Bearcats have had under Fickell, especially defensively the last few seasons, have made Freeman an interesting candidate for Group of Five jobs.

Others have been considered; but based off of what we've been hearing, there is a good chance Selig makes one of these three the next head coach at Old Dominion.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest coaching job information.
