Central Methodist: The Central Methodist University Strength and Conditioning Department is now accepting applications for Volunteer Interns for our Summer sessions. This internship will begin May 27th, 2019 and will conclude at the end of July 2019. This is an unpaid position. Compensation will include gear and recommendations for future career opportunities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to; assisting with the supervision and execution of the strength and conditioning program for all Central Methodist University sports, set up and break down for daily training, routine maintenance and cleaning of the training facilities, and completion of the internship curriculum. Required qualifications include a strong work ethic, completion or current pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree in exercise science or a related field of study, and a desire to become a strength and conditioning professional in the collegiate or professional setting. All applicants should have, or be working towards an accredited certification (CSCS or SCCC). Other preferred qualifications include previous coaching in a collegiate setting and personal involvement in a collegiate sport. Houston: The University of Houston Sports and Performance Department is seeking hardworking individuals who are in pursuit of a career in strength and conditioning. The University of Houston Sports and Performance Department is looking to fill a paid internship positions for the summer of 2019. If selected to fill the position, candidates will have the opportunity to work with all student-athletes that conduct strength training in the Elmer Redd Strength and Conditioning Center. This is located in the University of Houston Athletics/Alumni Center. The goal of the internship is to prepare the individual for a graduate assistantship or assistant strength and conditioning position after the internship Daily Responsibilities will include but not limited to: As an Intern you will be expected to work varied hours that will include some weekends. A typical day can begin at 5 am and will vary as to when it may end. You will be expected to assist with set up and breakdown of training groups and assist, when asked, with providing instruction to student-athletes. It will also be expected to assist with daily care of the facility and other tasks that are needed inside the University of Houston Strength and Performance Department. Participation in the internship curriculum is expected and this will include topics that cover exercise science, the art form of coaching, educational presentations, debates, homework assignments, and practical application of Strength and Conditioning Knowledge acquired. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required in exercise science or related field. Must be certified or working towards the CSCCa-SCCC and/or NSCA-CSCS certification. Have strong desire to be a Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach and have a passion for learning. Must have an excellent work ethic and an ability to be proactive. CPR/First aid Certified. Miami (FL): University of Miami (FL) Strength and Conditioning is seeking highly motivated people to fill the Summer 2019 internship positions working primarily with Football , but will help with some Olympic sports. This internship will start May 15, 2019 thru August 7 2019. Individuals will gain knowledge and experience in a Division I Collegiate Strength and Conditioning setting. The candidate must be pursuing or have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field and MUST be CPR and First Aid certified. Daily responsibilities will include but are not limited to: assisting staff in the design and implementation of strength programs including set up and breakdown of training equipment; as well as assisting in the maintenance and upkeep of the facility, and ongoing professional development through the internship curriculum. Preferred Qualifications: Strong work ethic, and highly motivated. Experience working in a Strength or Sports Performance environment; currently hold or working towards a nationally- accredited strength and conditioning certification (USAW, SCCC, CSCS, etc.) PLEASE NOTE: These are non-paid volunteer position. If accepted to fill the position, you will be expected to start as soon as possible and no later than May 27th. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with and observe all athletes that train in the Elmer Redd Strength and Conditioning Center. This is located in the University of Houston Athletics/Alumni center. Daily Responsibilities will include but not limited to: Assisting with supervision, set up, and clean-up of various Strength training programs every day. This will also include attending to daily maintenance of the facility. Expected to take part in an Internship curriculum that will include, exercise science, the art of coaching, educational presentations, debates, homework assignments, and practical application of Strength and Conditioning knowledge acquired. Qualifications: Be in pursuit of an undergraduate/graduate degree in exercise science or related field. Certified in CPR/First aid. Have a strong desire to be a Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach and pursuing CSCCa-SCCC, and/or NSCA-CSCS certifications. Must have a flexible schedule and be available to work varied hours.
