Sources: William & Mary to name Mike London new head coach (Mike London)

Monday AM Update> Multiple sources with direct knowledge tell FootballScoop Mike London has the job and will be announced later today. Mike London is the new head football coach at William & Mary.

Original Article - Sunday November 18, 2018:

William & Mary head coach Jimmye Laycock announced his retirement plans earlier this Fall; and concluded his run as head coach of the Tribe Saturday after 249 wins in 39 seasons as head coach.

Director of athletics Samantha Huge, now in her second year at W&M, has been making progress towards a hire; and an announcement is expected soon sources tell FootballScoop.

Former Richmond and UVA head coach Mike London is a strong candidate for the position sources tell FootballScoop.

London is currently the head coach at Howard, where he has posted an 11-10 mark in two seasons. He previously led Richmond to a 24-5 mark in two seasons with an FCS national championship in 2008. That success led him to the Virginia job, where he won 27 games in six seasons.

In between Virginia and Howard, London spent the 2016 season as assistant head coach and defensive line coach at Maryland.

London is a well-regarded coach in Virginia who has a connection to the William & Mary program after serving as Laycock's defensive line coach from 1991-94.

In London, William & Mary would be hiring a respected leader of men who will carry the program forward into the next era of Tribe football.

The other coach we had heard mentioned early in connection with the search is Penn State receivers coach David Corley. Corley, who played quarterback for the Tribe and was inducted into the W&M Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014, is in his first season on James Franklin's staff at Penn State. He spent one season at Army and three at UConn ('14-16). From 2008 - 13 he was on staff at W&M coaching offensive skill positions.

A hire & announcement could come anytime now that the W&M season is over. If London gets the job, expect movement in the next 24 hours.
