Source: Gus Malzahn has a top candidate for his offensive coordinator position (Featured)

Source tells FootballScoop Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn's top candidate for his vacant offensive coordinator role is University of South Carolina running backs coach Bobby Bentley.

Bentley served on Gus Malzahn's staff at Auburn during the 2014 and '15 seasons as an offensive analyst. He left to join Will Muschamp (who had served as Auburn's defensive coordinator in 2015) when Muschamp was hired as South Carolina's head coach after the 2015 season.

Bentley is considered one of the most successful high school coaches ever in the state of South Carolina. He led Byrnes High School to four consecutive state championships 2002 - 05.

Bobby's son, Jake, plays quarterback at South Carolina, recently completing his third season of eligibility; which certainly is a factor in whether Bobby will accept this role at Auburn.

Source tells FootballScoop Gus would like to have the matter settled by the end of the weekend or Monday if possible.
